Skill360 Australia – Commitment To Environmental Sustainability
As the nation’s foremost Group Training Organisation (GTO), Skill360 Australia is pleased to lead the way in delivery of innovative employment and training solutions. We recognise that as an organisation Skill360 Australia is a large user of resources, particularly energy, which contribute to climate change. To this end:
Skill360 Australia’s employment and training services have been delivered on a carbon-neutral basis since 1 October 2009.
This is an important commitment made after a review of Skill360 Australia's operations and in the full-knowledge of what is required. Our commitment to operating on a carbon-neutral basis is incorporated into the Skill360 Australia sustainability policy and practices which are subject to ISO14001: Environmental Management System certification. It is part of a series of initiatives that include:
- Reducing vehicle fleet (38 vehicles) emissions through a phased replacement of all company vehicles with petrol-electro hybrids / small capacity diesel utilities
- Off-setting carbon emissions associated with air travel
- Reducing energy and water consumption in our offices and training facilities as a result of plant upgrades, altered working practices and the installation of photo-voltaic solar cells.
- Purchase of 100% renewable power from energy suppliers
- Use of government approved abatement programs to off-set remaining carbon emissions.
- Reducing water usage and installing rainwater tanks in our offices and training facilities
- Recycling of plastic, paper, metal and other materials in our offices and training facilities
With around ninety operational staff in addition to around 800 apprentices and trainees on the payroll, this is a significant decision but the correct approach.
Skill360 Australia is committed to reducing our use of resources and minimising the impact of our operations. Our commitment to being carbon-neutral since 1 October 2009 augments other commitments to reduce our use of non-renewable materials, reduce water usage and increase recycling of paper, plastics and other materials. We even buy our paper from recycled sources or forests that have received Australian Forest Stewardship Council certification. For an overview of our initiatives download the:
On an annual basis, Skill360 Australia engages an independent professional consultant to conduct a carbon and resource use audit with the view to verifying that our objective has been reached and opportunities to further reduce energy and resource usage. For the carbon emissions that can not be reduced, Skill360 Australia uses a government-endorsed abatement program.
