Christopher is ecstatic to have completed the Skilling Queenslanders for Work Warehousing Program and, after receiving multiple job offers from employers, is now working.
For personal reasons beyond his control, Christopher had been out of the workforce for a while and while recovering, by his own admission, he had “gotten to the point of being lazy”. Realising this was Christopher’s first step to seeking assistance to get back into the workforce. He knew half the battle would be regaining confidence so when he saw the opportunity through his job provider to attend a Skilling Queenslanders for Work project/program in Warehousing, he jumped at the chance.
Participants in the Skilling Queenslanders for Work, Warehousing program gain skills and work experience in warehousing and logistics. They also learn soft skills like communication in the workplace, teamwork and healthy choices. Upon graduation, the goal is to match them with employers to continue their qualification and experience. Skill360 partner with warehouse and logistics businesses to provide work experience opportunities for the participants and, upon graduation, potential ongoing employment.
Christopher, who excelled in the program and gave it 100 percent, was quite overwhelmed with the amount of job offers he then received! He received multiple offers, phone calls and interviews before finally choosing a position.
Samantha also attended the program and received casual employment a few days after completing the program. She said, “What led me to the program was my job provider from BUSY Ability, they had told me about a warehousing course and if I was interested, they would put me into it. It was a great experience and opportunity for me as I’ve never actually done warehousing work before and have always had an interest in it.
“The team leader who was running the warehousing program, Kasey, was such an incredible leader. She has been so helpful throughout the program and even after the course finished has continued to help me find jobs and has been so supportive. My plans now are to find a long-term warehousing job and put my new forklift ticket to use, within an industry that I can grow with in the future for greater opportunities!”
