Anu has gained work in Civil Construction, thanks to Skilling Queenslanders for Work

Anu Ara is about to start his career in Civil Construction thanks to a Queensland Government funded Skilling Queenslanders for Work course in Construction.

Raised in Weipa into a family with many members who work in the construction industry, Anu has had the ‘smell of sawdust’ inspire him from a very early age.

When an opportunity came to enrol in a Skilling Queenslanders for Work course, undertaking a Certificate I in Construction, Anu jumped at the chance. Nearing completion of the course, he is glad he did because he has now confirmed the career path he would like to take – and he has also now gained a traineeship in civil construction with a local company.

Anu couldn’t be happier and stated “The course was an opportunity to learn new skills. I worked as a youth worker before this but wanted a career change. I’m glad I did because I now have a traineeship with a local company who do civil construction in our region (from Cape York to Mackay and Georgetown), doing line marking and other road works”.

“The trainers in this course have been great, easy to listen to and they teach well. It’s been a great 9 weeks overall”, Anu further stated.

Paul Daly, CEO of Skill360, stated “The Skilling Queenslanders for Work course is completely funded by the State Government and gives people like Anu the chance to learn new skills and decide if this is for them. Our trainers and Mentors have many years of experience in the construction industry, including in managing their own businesses, so they know what the industry is looking for in an employee plus they have many connections in our region. We look forward to following Anu’s career journey and encourage others interested in construction to enrol in this course”.

Funded by the Queensland Government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work program, the 10-week construction course is open to unemployed or under-employed persons interested in a career in construction. It offers real connections to employers and practical hands-on training.
