Bryce takes out the School Based Apprentice of the Year Award!

The team at Skill360 were excited to learn today that their employee Bryce Cummings has taken out the 2020 School Based Apprentice of the Year Award for Tropical North Queensland!

Bryce, who excels at school, both in his academic subjects (particularly maths where he is already a year ahead of his peers) as well as leadership roles at his school is undertaking a Certificate III in Electrotechnology: Electrician (UEE30811) through TecNQ and with host employer Jason Cummings Electrical Services.

In his nomination, Bryce said, “Whilst still enrolled as a grade 12 student at Atherton State High School in FNQ, I now spend my two apprenticeship training days per week working with my host employer Jason Cummings Electrical Service. This small Business based on the Atherton Tablelands and which I love working for have introduced me to many aspects of work and training in which I both love and enjoy. I am exposed to a vast range of enjoyable work tasks such as installing major programmable motor starters to repairing domestic-based socket outlets which help me to pursue my chosen career of an Electrician”.

Bryce is a great ambassador for how a Vocational Education and Training pathway can lead to great career pathways.

“After enrolling in a VET course, I would encourage other students across the country to pursue this career pathway as there are many advantages to this”.

Through the VET system I have been successful in gaining a school-based Electrical apprenticeship, a certificate III in Electrotechnology, a certificate III in fitness and a certificate II in sports recreation…  I have progressed majorly in the Electrical industry and in my VET training pathway”, Bryce stated in his nomination.

A school-based apprenticeship or traineeship can be a great way for students to explore alternative career pathways, gain work references and experience – all before leaving school.

Skill360 are extremely proud of Bryce and look forward to following what will undoubtedly be his successful career path!
