Since commencing his Apprenticeship, Sam is now confidently restoring cars

After only one year in his Automotive Mechanics apprenticeship at Torque Auto Babinda, Samuel Hudson has come a long way and is already working on engine swaps and car restorations.

With support and assistance gained from his colleagues and employers, Sam has taken on several solo jobs and made great progress.

Dylan and Kieran, Sam’s employers, think very highly of Sam, applauding his work ethic and commitment to his apprenticeship, saying Sam is “a self-starter and commits to all jobs without complaint”.

Sam really enjoys working for two very experienced mechanics from such different backgrounds, saying “It means I get the best of both worlds in the automotive industry.

“Kieran brings a lot of new-school problem solving strategies to the workshop every day, and Dylan has this old-school engineering style which means I can learn how to fix jobs on the go, especially if certain parts are not available,” added Sam.

Sam is also grateful to Skill360 (a Group Training Organisation) who have accelerated his learning by sourcing training and other forms of learning material to help him achieve more in the workplace. They also visit the workshop monthly to ensure his uniforms and workplace equipment are in good condition.

“In the past year, Skill360 has made it very easy for me as an apprentice to be able to settle into work quickly, making day to day life more streamlined and easy to manage, said Sam.

“To me, it’s not a job; it’s hanging out with my mates while fixing cars and learning so many new skills and techniques. I really do look forward to coming to work every day!”

Skill360 CEO, Mike Bareham, said, “At Skill360, we want to see people successfully complete their apprenticeship or traineeship, so we support them from start to finish. Sam is achieving a lot at such an early stage in his apprenticeship, thanks also to his host employers at Torque Auto. We wish him all the best for the next three years and have no doubt he will continue to excel.”

Skill360 is a Group Training Organisation and licensed for Labour Hire, acting as the employer for apprentices or trainees who are placed with host employers. Taking care of all the paperwork that businesses would ordinarily have to manage themselves, Skill360 also offer ongoing support and mentoring to ensure the apprentice or trainee performs well in their role and successfully completes their qualification.
